Professional Rodeo

Craig Korkow is a recently retired professional rodeo participant.  His interest in rodeo started with his grandfather who was recently been honored as a Hall of Fame rodeo person in 2008.  Korkow rodeos started in 1947.  The Korkows have over 300 horses on their South Dakota ranch.  Craig earned 4 state championships in calf roping while in high school and another 4 championships while he was in college.  His best time was 7.4 seconds in calf-roping.  He discuss the rodeo calendar year which usually begins in Kansas City, and ends in Las Vegas.  Craig also showed a short video tape was demonstrating calf-roping.

Craig described the logistics of performing in more than one rodeo during the same weekend.  He received a lot of help from his wife and other family members.

A recent problem is that horses are no longer slaughtered in the United States, so there is no official way to dispose of older horses.  Craig suggests anyone with pasture padlock gates because horses no longer needed might end up on their property because of this problem.  They sometimes just get dropped off.
